Roger Neal, who represented Barker as his publicist from 1987 to 1994 and again from 2020, revealed on Saturday that Barker had died of natural causes at his longstanding Hollywood Hills home.

We regret to inform you that Bob Barker, the World’s Greatest MC, has passed away,” Neal said in a statement.

In her own words, Burnet said, “I am so proud of the pioneering work Barker, and I did together to expose the cruelty to animals in the entertainment industry and including working to improve the plight of abused and exploited animals in the United States and internationally.”

Over the past four decades, we’ve become close friends. We shall miss him.

Kent Valandra, Robert Valandra, Chip Valandra, and Barker’s half-niece Vickie Valandra Kelly are all still alive and well today.

In recent years, the TV star has struggled with a number of health issues. When Barker fell at his home in the Hollywood Hills in January 2019, emergency services were contacted. Even though an ambulance arrived, he was not taken to the hospital.

Barker’s manager informed in October 2018 that Barker had a “non-emergency back problem” that required an ambulance and fire department to be dispatched to his house in the Hollywood Hills.

Later, Barker’s management said that he was “fine and resting at home.” More than a year had passed since he had fallen and hit his head at home in June 2017.

At the age of 87, Barker announced his resignation after 35 years as host of The Price Is Right. Before Drew Carey took over as host, he appeared on the legendary show until 2007.

Many Barker devotees would wait in line for hours outside Los Angeles’ CBS TV City simply to hear him say, “And the actual retail price is….”

When the time came for Barker’s retirement, he was reluctant to leave the job that made him a household name.

In 2007, he told Entertainment Weekly, “Every year for the past 10 or 15 years, I have thought that maybe I should quit, and then I think, ‘No, I’ll do it for another year.'” I’m sorry I have to leave now.

In 1956, after relocating to Los Angeles, Barker began working as a television host. The host job on Truth or Consequences, where he stayed for 18 years, was his within days of applying.

On CBS since 1972, he has hosted the game show The Price Is Right. A huge success from the start, it gave Barker the title of longest-serving game show presenter in U.S. history.

Barker’s notoriety led to appearances in films like Adam Sandler’s 1996 comedy Happy Gilmore, but his television work will always be remembered as his greatest accomplishment.

“It’s probably hard to believe, but I have thoroughly enjoyed doing this show for all these years,” Barker said to Entertainment Weekly at one point.

Barker’s first wife, Dorothy Jo, died in 1981 after a 36-year marriage. They did not have any children together, and the TV personality never had another marriage.
